Los Cristianos is generally a more relaxed environment than its near neighbour Playa de Las Americas. The harbour area with its ferries, fishing fleet, tourist & pleasure craft forms a pleasant backdrop to the gently shelving beach with its golden sand which is ideal for families. (You can view live web-cam images of Los Cristianos' two main beaches by clicking the links on the 'Contact Us' page of this web-site)
A lovely aspect of Los Cristianos beach area is the unique experience of swimming and sunbathing on a beautiful beach, while just a few miles away snow sparkles on the crest of the imposing Mount Teide.
The town is 15-20 minutes walk away, or five minutes by taxi. There you will find the superb beaches, Sunday Market, wide variety of shops and the harbour with its busy comings and goings. There is a working fishing fleet, ferries to other Canary Islands and numerous boat trips on offer - to see the whales and dolphins, for fishing, or just cruises along the picturesque coast. The unspoilt and picturesque Island of Gomera is just 75 minutes away by ferry and well worth a visit.
There is a sailing school and also scuba diving groups for the more ambitious and of course many golf courses within a short taxi ride.
The shopping in and around the town centre is excellent, ranging from tourist souvenir shops right through to perfume, leather goods & quality clothing shops.
There is an excellent café-culture around the town & especially the beach-front area. For the discos and nightclubs, Las Americas is about 10 minutes away by taxi. The main areas of attraction are; ‘The Patch’ featuring more relaxed & family friendly nightlife, including the well-known Blaydon Races show-bar amongst the many bars & restaurants and ‘Veronicas’ & ‘Starco’. These two areas are across the road from each other. They feature Linekers Bar, Cream & Tramps. (This area is loud, brash & boisterous & not for the feint-hearted)
There are lots of places which are worth a visit, either on one of the many organised excursions or by the excellent local bus services, or using a hire car.
The most prominent attraction is Mount Teide, Spain’s highest Peak and very popular with tourists and locals. There is the Loro Park (Parrot Park) in the North at Puerto de la Cruz, which reputedly has the largest population of Penguins outside of Antarctica amongst it’s attractions. Closer to Los Cristianos, there is the Aqua-park (Water Park) in Torviscas alto. There is also the Camel Park and the Parque de las Aguilas (Eagle park, featuring birds of prey), There are also 'free-bus' trips to Kart-racing & Pearl shopping & other 'attractions'. (Please note that you will be expected to buy stuff, they don't put the free bus on out of pure generosity) Los Cristianos bus station has buses routed to the island capital Santa Cruz (45 minutes on the non-stop service), Puerto de la Cruz (60 minutes), Los Gigantes (50 minutes) and to all the neighbouring smaller resorts. The amount of English spoken by bus drivers varies but they are generally helpful in their demeanour.
